Are you ready to take your workouts outside with the warmer weather? Get outside with The Scout Guide with a renewed fitness routine throughout the warmer seasons. The “sleeveless” spring days of sundresses, shorts and swimsuits have crept upon us. Exercising outdoors provides a source of Vitamin D that enhances your state of mind and your circulatory system. We talked to Jenna Goode of Core Collective Broad to round up the perfect fitness routine and scouted these expert tips listed below.

WHY PILATES: Pilates strengthens the mind-body connection and core stability. The Founder and Director of Teacher Training at Core Collective Broad—Jenna Goode—in Memphis, Tennessee, said, “Incorporating core work and mindful movement is critical to staying healthy and balanced in movement and attuned to the mind-body connection. Pilates is a great foundation for any other movement or sport you enjoy. The workouts vary greatly, so it keeps your muscles guessing.”

THE WORKOUT: Pilates equipment is not required! You can do a very effective mat routine focusing on full-body integration, using bodyweight for resistance. Pushups, lunges, planks, and squats are dynamic, multi-joint movements that target various areas at once and maximize strength benefits.

A Simple Outside Circuit Example with a Park Bench:

Grab a park bench for pushups, lunges, tricep dips, squats and plank forearm holds. You can hold for 6-10 seconds or build-up to longer. You can do side planks here, as well.

Three sets of 6-10. (the rep range can vary greatly from person to person but start to build your range where you feel the muscles start to fatigue and then do a few more maintaining the integrity of your posture—long, strong spine and aligned form astay intentional with your breath.

At CCB, we always emphasize quality over quantity.

Get some stretches in a runner’s lunge to target the quads, hip flexors and calves.

We also love a forward fold to stretch the hamstrings and spinal muscles to finish with a deep inhale to exhale roll back up to standing tall as a signature close of our classes and sessions at Core Collective Broad.

THE BENEFIT: “Pilates considers balancing the whole body and focuses on core stability, strength, and mobility,” Goode said. “The choreography is highly-adaptable to meet the needs of many ages and stages of life.”
